The People
He being dead yet speaks.
Hebrews 11:4
Kathi, Mike and John, teammates who are now "home free," still
speak through the words they said, and the lives they lived. A number of
their friends put their faith in Jesus Christ.
John Wallis
John's words to the Kiwanis Leadership Conference at San Fernando Valley
State College, June, 1969,
"You men have spent a good amount of your time making money. This is
necessary and important, but the Bible says,
'What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his
won soul?'"
A member of John's track team accepted Christ after the funeral. When
asked if John had talked to him about Christ he said, "Oh, yes, many times.
I would never have done this today, if it hadn't been for John."
I have fought long and hard for my Lord, and through it all I have
kept true to Him. And now the time has come for me to stop fighting and
rest. In heaven a crown is waiting for me which the Lord, the righteous
Judge, will give me on that great day of His return. And not just to me, but to all
those whose lives show that they are
eagerly looking forward to His coming back again.
2 Timothy 4:7,8
Kathi Johnson
I have come that they might have life and that they might have it
MORE ABUNDANTLY.
John 10:10.
Kathi wrote her best friend this letter,
"Felicia:
This is the first chance I've gotten to write. I've been so busy studying
God's Word. This place is the greatest... Felicia, I wish you were here
right now. Christ is the only answer and no matter how much J-, S-, B-,
or you think this makes no sense, man it is the greatest... This Christian
life is the only life, I don't mean the hypocritical life such as I was
living but being close to the Holy Spirit, trusting Him. Felicia, I'm not
gonna fool around with you anymore. You need Jesus, I don't mean as you
have Him now. You need to walk and talk with Him everyday. As your
best friend it's my responsibility to see you're not lost. Believe me I
know this world has nothing to offer. You may think J- is the only answer,
but he didn't die for your sins... I have failed as a Christian but believe
me for every person I've failed, 3 more will learn to trust in Jesus...
Felicia, I'm out for the world and if I can't make even my best friend
see this, then I see how difficult the job is. Be good and when I get
home we've got a lot of talking to do, I hope.
In Christ's love I write this.
Kathi"
Felicia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, shortly after receiving this letter.
Mike Quatro
Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life OR BY
DEATH. For to me to live is Christ, and TO DIE IS GAIN.
Philippians 1:20,21
On July 15, 1969, Jim and Ann Wallis sailed for Brazil, their mission
field, with their youngest children, Jim and Bobby. Ethel, Dave, and John
had stayed in Canoga Park to continue their education. Mike Quatro, a close
friend of the Wallises, wrote on August 7,
"... This letter should arrive about the time you arrive in Sao Paulo.
I hear the Lord was really working on the boat. We got your letters. The
Lord is really working here fantastically. Your Ethel's teen-time is out
of sight. The other night she gave the devotional. She must have prayed
3 days straight before she gave it for I thought Jesus would appear at
any minute. She told us about getting and giving so I gave a little the
next day. I prayed for opportunities to witness. I got three the same hour.
One girl only seconds after I prayed at school asked me why I wanted to
be a missionary - Wow! Next a guy asked me if I had ever witnessed to him
before. I had - 2 semesters ago. He said it influenced him to accept Christ
Monday only 3 days before ..."
Mike
Dave Wallis
David, seriously injured in the accident, was treated in Salinas then
later flown to the UCLA Medical Center for further treatment and surgery.
When Dave's Dad told him that his brother John, together with Kathi and
Mike were in the presence of Christ, tears came to Dave's eyes, but he
said:
"That really changes things ... I'll have to take up where they left
off... We just don't realize how sovereign God really is. It's not, Why has
God taken them, but why has He left me ..."
Dave now wants to take the Bible to tribes in Brazil who have never
had it.
